Ice Castles cancels Colorado attraction for 2022-23 season

For the second year in a row, the popular Ice Castles winter attraction will not come to Colorado.

For years, the interactive installation froze over Dillon’s Town Park, where visitors could walk through a life-sized ice castle that could also glow different colors. In 2021, the attraction tried to move to Silverthorne while the Dillon park underwent construction, but the timing didn’t work out.

“There are a lot of factors that we must consider when determining whether a location will work,” Ice Castles spokesperson Melissa Smuzynski told The Denver Post. “Access to water, sustainable temperatures, adequate parking, sufficient drainage, and a space large enough to create the venue are just a few factors that we have to consider.”

But that doesn’t mean the attraction is leaving the Centennial State permanently. Ice Castles is currently scouting sites with hopes of landing in Grand, Eagle or Summit County next winter, Smuzynski said.

“We are in discussions to bring the attraction back to the state in winter 2023-24,” Smuzynski said. “While we won’t be back in Colorado this winter, we have big plans in store for when we are able to return.”

Can’t wait that long? Ice Castles will maintain five locations this winter in Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Utah, and Wisconsin.
