A Closer Look at New Balance’s First 991 Made in U.K. Anniversary Release

This year marks the 20th anniversary since New Balance launched its 991 sneaker. To pay homage to the iconic silhouette, the brand will be celebrating with a series of limited-edition releases throughout 2021.

To get the ball rolling, New Balance readies its first 991 Made in U.K. anniversary drop, comprising both men’s and women’s variations. Featuring a tonal gray upper, the men’s take boasts dark gray branding and accents, with the women’s taking on vibrant pops of teal.

Initially launched as the predecessor to the 990v2, the 991 became New Balance’s first 99x to feature an ABZORB window in the forefoot, as well as beneath the heel — features that remain on the sneaker to this day. With a streamlined toe-box and comfort synonymous with the brand’s running models of the time, the 991 has since become one of the brand’s most famed silhouettes.

Both the M991ANI and W991ANI are set for a global release on February 26 via the New Balance webstore, and will retail at £180 GBP / $264.99 USD.

In other sneaker news, New Balance has teamed up with Japanese retailer atmos for a new take on its 2002R sneaker.
