Piers Morgan, 55, has slammed his GMB co-star Alex Beresford, 40, for defending Prince Harry, 36, and Meghan Markle’s bid to “control” stories that are written about them in the press following their move to America. Alex supported the royal couple following Prince Harry’s interview with James Corden, 42, which aired on The Late Late Show last night.

During the chat, the Duke of Sussex joined TV host and actor James for a double-decker bus tour of Los Angeles.

The interview saw Harry, who has quit royal duties for a new life in the US with his wife Meghan, open up about his experiences as part of the Royal Family.

Praising Harry for the candid chat, Alex tweeted in view of his 68,000 followers: “This @JKCorden interview with Prince Harry is so refreshing! How can you not like the man? He spoke with respect whilst telling his truths.”

The journalist then argued in a second post: “Let’s keep it real! Harry and Meghan aren’t teaching us anything new!

“Controlling the press is something celebrities have been doing for decades.

“I think they deserve to take control given the pile of negative headlines they had no say in!!!”

However, Piers was less than impressed with his Good Morning Britain colleague’s views about Harry and Meghan’s behaviour towards the media.

He retweeted Alex’s post and hit back in view of his 7.7 million followers: “Mate, if you want to be a journalist, probably best not to advocate ‘controlling the press’ as a good thing.”

Alex has not yet responded to Piers’ remark.

It comes after Prince Harry addressed the controversial subject of Megxit in his TV interview.

The Duke insisted the move “was never walking away, it was stepping back rather than stepping down”.

He also criticised the press coverage surrounding him and Meghan, saying it was a “really difficult environment” and “destroying my mental health”.

Harry added that he needed to move his family away from the UK, but also said: “I will never walk away, I will always be contributing. My life is public service.”

The couple, who are expecting their second child, are also set to give a televised interview to Oprah Winfrey, which airs next month.

Alongside his criticism of Alex’s defence of the royal couple, Piers took a further swipe at the Duke and Duchess after watching the former’s interview.

He tweeted today: “Loved Harry’s private interview on a Hollywood bus with James Corden.

“Touching private revelations, stoic defence of Netflix for trashing his family, & fully justified attack on the UK press for forcing him to quit royal duty & live in a California mansion.”

Referring to the Sussexes’ upcoming tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, Piers sarcastically added: “Can’t wait for Oprah!”

Piers then hit out at lawyer Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu for telling him: “Piers close your mouth, your malice is drooling,” in response to his criticism of Harry and Meghan.

The outspoken star replied: “Shola, talking of mouth-closing, are we supposed to respect Meghan/Harry’s privacy by watching all their TV confessionals or not watching them? It’s very confusing!”
