BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty, 45, was mocked by her BBC Radio 5 Live co-star Nihal Arthanayake, 49, after sharing her views about romance, following Valentine’s Day, on her show this morning. The star, who has been married to husband James Haggar since 2007, admitted that she is not a big fan of the romantic occasion and tends to avoid it every year.
Naga began her show by asking her listeners whether or not they agreed with her views about Valentine’s Day.
She divulged: “I do really want to know whether you celebrated Valentine’s Day yesterday. I didn’t, I never do! I sound quite forceful when I say that, don’t I?
“I have quite strong opinions! If you did though, there’s no judgement here of course, love is love, what did you do?”
Naga got onto the subject of Valentine’s Day again when she chatted to Nihal ahead of his afternoon show on the radio station.

Quizzing her on her romance-inspired outfit, Nihal said: “It’s lovely to see you, is that a Valentine’s present you’re wearing?”
“No, I don’t do Valentine’s and anyone who loves me knows not to do Valentine’s with me,” Naga explained.
Intrigued by Naga’s response, Nihal asked: “Who loves you then? Well obviously lots of people love you, because…”
Naga then chimed: “I actually got this jumper just because I love it. I thought it was ironic and I thought I could wear it, it was ironic because I’m so not romantic, well I am romantic but I don’t…”
Nihal seemed surprised as he interjected: “Are you not? Okay, what was the last romantic thing that you did that you would be willing to share on national radio?”
Naga revealed: “It would be an act of kindness, that’s the most romantic thing I could think of, being kind to someone.”
However, Nihal disagreed and hit back: “Wait a minute, no, that’s not romantic!”
Defending her words, Naga told her co-star: “Listen, do you want to see this jumper? It says, ‘he loves me’ on the front.”

“That’s not romantic!” Nihal exclaimed.
“Wait! Can you see the back?” Naga asked.
After the BBC Breakfast star turned around to show off the back of her jumper, Nihal read out its message: “Oh, ‘he loves me not’.”
Naga explained: “So I might just switch it round! Anyway, being kind to someone is romantic because all romance is, is showing that you’ve thought about someone else, and being thought about is a wonderful thing, and being cared for is a wonderful thing.”
Nihal disagreed, saying: “But romance surely has to have a physical component to it and if I’m kind to someone for helping them across the road, for instance, I don’t want anything, you know!”
Giving an example of the kind gestures she performs for her other half James, Naga chimed: “Head rub! I gave a head rub yesterday and it was received with such gratitude!”
Nihal laughed at his colleague’s comment and quipped: “I’m not having this!”
However, Naga then insisted she just doesn’t buy into the commercial aspect of Valentine’s Day, telling Nihal: “No, you are one of these people that’s bought into all these flamboyant gestures, you are a marketer’s dream Nihal!”
“I am hopefully,” the broadcaster admitted.
Naga then jokingly added: “I am not, I’m very few people’s dreams, mainly nightmares I imagine!”
Nihal then stepped in to disagree with her statement, saying: “You sell yourself short Naga Munchetty! Head rubs a-go-go!”
