Katy Perry was one of the Met Gala 2022’s relatable celebs when she got her high heel stuck in a vent – we’ve all been there.
The California Gurls singer, 37, attended the prestigious bash on Monday night, of which the theme was Gilded Glamour.
Held usually on the first Monday in May – although it was rescheduled for 2021 to September due to Covid – the Met Ball sees some of the biggest names get dolled up to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute.
Following the theme of In America: An Anthology of Fashion – which was a continuation of last year’s In America: A Lexicon of Fashion – Katy wowed everyone on the red carpet in a Oscar de la Renta ensemble.
The musician looked stunning in a black and white silk number, complete with a floor-length black shawl and floral neckline.
Katy accessorised with gloves and a pair of clear heels (more on those in a moment).
The pop star joked at the ball that she was suffering for her art this year, after donning an iconic cheeseburger costume in 2019, this time saying: ‘I’ve been pinned in for three hours. Don’t ask me how I’m going to the restroom ever or anyone at the Met.’
While all went swimmingly as she posed up a storm on the red carpet, disaster struck when she later got one of her strappy stilettos stuck in a grated vent.
It seems the 2022 Met really wanted to test our celebs, with Lily James also struggling to walk over cobbles in her heels while heading to an after-party.
Youtube’s head of fashion and beauty, Derek Blasberg was on hand to capture Katy’s mishap, sharing a hilarious video to Instagram in which the US star can be seen struggling to tug her heel out of the vent while held up by a group of suited men.
‘Oh no, no!’ she could be heard saying as she tried to free herself.
‘She’s beauty and she’s grace,’ someone can be heard saying in the background, to which Katy laughs: ‘She’s also got her foot stuck in a vent!’
‘The #metgala is a full-contact sport,’ Derek wrote in the post’s caption.
Also seen in the clip was model Karlie Kloss, who appeared concerned as she watched Katy try to wriggle her heel out of the vent, probably relating to her as much as we all did.
But, Katy handled the moment with class, as ever, with Derek joking afterwards: ‘Never a dull moment.’
This year’s Met saw the likes of Kim Kardashian, Olivia Rodrigo, Blake Lively, and even Elon Musk, hit the iconic stairs in the name of fashion.
For 2021, the Met was co-chaired by Regina King, Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as Blake and her husband Ryan Reynolds.
