Lisa Faulkner, 50, has described why Princess Diana’s wedding to King Charles III holds such special memories for her in an exclusive interview with In a candid chat taking place a few weeks before Queen Elizabeth II’s death, the former Celebrity MasterChef winner revealed that royal occasions have a place in her heart thanks to her late mother, who “loved entertaining” for such events.

Lisa has teamed up with cracker company Carr’s to help create some tasty recipes that will hopefully spark conversations and encourage families to look away from their phones during mealtimes.

One of her cracker recipes includes coronation chicken, which evokes “nostalgic memories” of the wedding between King Charles III and Princess Diana’s wedding, as well as the Queen’s Jubilee.

Lisa explained: “Since Covid, people seem to have lost a lot of confidence in cooking and entertaining.

“So I joined up with Carr’s to design a few really easy recipes for toppers for crackers that make lovely sharing plates for inviting people round.”

She went on to explain how each platter is designed to spark conversation with its own specific story attached.

“One of the themes is nostalgia, so for that, I did coronation chicken, because it’s a really nostalgic recipe to me,” Lisa said.

“It’s about my mum and when I was growing up and it was Princess Diana’s wedding and the Queen’s Silver Jubilee.

“And then I recreated it for my kids with Prince William and Kate Middleton getting married and then obviously this year we had the Queen’s Jubilee.”

Asked if she believed royal events are something that helps unite Brits over a shared experience, Lisa explained why they hold such a special place in her heart.

“I think so and I suppose, for me, my mum used to love entertaining and she was always having a party no matter what it was.

“She also loved the royals, and so I remember there seemed to be lots of events that she would cook for.

“You know, one of my favourite memories was the Royal Wedding of Charles and Diana.

“So it’s sort of always stuck with me,” she reflected.

Lisa went on to give special mention to her husband, MasterChef judge John Torode, who was honoured with an MBE this year for his services to food and charity.

“We’ve had John’s MBE so it was really exciting to then recreate the recipe again for that,” she gushed.

“It’s so nostalgic and I think it’s a really good talking point for loads of people,” she said, in reference to the royal-themed topper.

Lisa met John on Celebrity MasterChef back in 2010 and the couple began dating in the same year.

The celebrity chef spoke to about her family life with John as part of a wider interview about encouraging families to be more connected during meal times.

Lisa’s other themed sharing plates to help spark conversation include dressed Crab & Apple for holiday moments and double-handed snacks like barbecued steak & leek, which make it physically impossible for you to pick up your phone.

Revealing that two thirds of Brits use a phone during meals, Carr’s is encouraging the nation to enjoy more meaningful hosting moments, working with Lisa Faulkner to create recipes that help to eliminate distractions and encourage conversation with friends and family.
