Dame Joan Collins has shared an insight into the awkward moment actress Raquel Welch asked an acclaimed author and journalist whether she could play a part in his book, which was inspired by the OJ Simpson murder trial. The Big Sleep actress, 88, candidly told how her fellow actress had asked for work while appearing on Good Morning Britain, before revealing that she speaks about the gaff in her new memoir, My Unapologetic Diaries.

‘Oh, is there a part for me?’

Speaking about her new book, the Dynasty actress revealed she had doubts over whether it would ever be published.

She said: “I never thought that it would be published because there are a few naughty things in it.”

Going into detail to GMB hosts Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid, The Stud star opened up about a very awkward moment with fellow Hollywood actress Raquel.

Joan said: “For example, I meet Raquel Welch and I’m with Dominick Dunne who was at the OJ trial and he says, ‘I’m writing a book about the OJ trial’.

“And Raquel, who I’m sitting next to at a party, says, ‘Oh, is there a part for me?'”

Richard and Susanna fell about laughing while Joan went on to reveal that she rushed home to document the actress’s gaff.

“All of these things happen at the time, then I go home and I say, ‘And Raquel said, ‘Is there a part for me?'” Joan explained, while miming speaking into a dictaphone.

Richard chipped in: “Well that’s the thing, that’s how these diaries read, they read like having a conversation with you, it’s very intimate and as you say it’s incredibly frank.

“And sometimes in a very nice way,” he continued, leading Joan to cut in.

“Only sometimes?” she said, looking shocked.

Richard jibed: “You can do nice, Joan Collins does nice”.

In her memoir, Joan said that the incident with Raquel asking Dominick for work caused “raised eyebrows”.

Dunne penned 1997 novel Another City, Not My Own, which was inspired by his experiences covering the OJ Simpson murder trial for magazine Vanity Fair.

The criminal trial saw football star OJ Simpson acquitted in 1995 of the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goodman.

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Raquel for comment.

Joan’s claims on GMB comes after she admitted to taking a swipe at Raquel’s outfit that she wore to attend The Carousel Ball in 1996 .

In her new book, she penned: “Raquel is wearing the most awful rhinestone necklace, bracelet and earrings and she is not exactly svelte, although her skin is good.”

Joan went on to say her fellow actress looked as though she borrowed a “dinner jacket from her boyfriend”, who she claimed looked like Pierce Brosnan.

“When I ask her where she met him, she’s snappy and doesn’t want to answer,” she added.

Despite her swipe at Raquel, the pair have seemed to have been on friendly terms in the past.

In 2008, the pair were all smiles for the camera at the Oscar de la Renta Boutique.

Three years later, Joan posed for a snap alongside her and Alana Stewart at John Wayne’s Cancer Institute’s 26th Annual Odyssey Ball.

In the same year, she stood beside Raquel and her Dynasty co-star Stephanie Beacham for a picture.
