On Sunday, the cast and crew of Everything Everywhere All At Once took home the biggest awards of the night at the 95th Academy Awards, including best original screenplay, best director, best supporting actor and actress, best actress, best editing, and yes, best picture! The back to back wins were so exciting as were the emotional acceptance speeches that followed!
Jamie Lee Curtis
Jamie Lee Curtis took home her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. She tearfully said:
“I know it looks like I’m standing up here by myself but I am not, I am hundreds of people.”
Lead Michelle Yeoh snagged the Best Actress title, making her the first Asian woman to take home a lead acting trophy. She cheered on stage:
“For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities. This is proof that … dream big, and dreams do come true. And ladies, don’t let anybody tell you you are ever past your prime. Never give up.”
Ke Huy Quan
Ke Huy Quan immediately burst into tears when his name was called for Best Supporting Actor — and the former child star then had the entire audience in tears as he reflected on his career, saying:
“My journey started on a boat. I spent a year in a refugee camp. And somehow, I ended up here on Hollywood’s biggest stage. They say stories like these only happen in the movies. I cannot believe it’s happening to me. This– this is the American dream. Thank you so much.”
Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert took home the award for Best Directing and Best Original Screenplay. While accepting the first award, Scheinert sent love to “the mommies in the world” while also bashing anti-drag laws. Meanwhile, Kwan said:
“There is greatness in every single person, it doesn’t matter who they are. If you have a genius that is waiting to erupt, you just need to find the right people to unlock that.”
