I'm A Celebrity 2022: Owen Warner's pal praises star's 'older mindset'

I’m A Celebrity 2022: ‘He’s a wise old man!’ Owen Warner’s Hollyoaks’ co-star Malique Thompson-Dwyer praises pal’s ‘open mindset’… after soap hunk spoke out about his mental health

Owen Warner’s friend and fellow Hollyoaks cast member Malique Thompson-Dwyer says the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! campmate is like a ‘wise old man’.

Malique, 24 – who plays Prince McQueen on the Channel 4 soap and appeared on I’m A Celebrity himself in 2018 – insists that, despite Owen’s seeming lack of general knowledge and gullible nature, he is in fact very emotionally intelligent.

Malique said he always feels comfortable to go to Owen, 23, when he’s going through difficult times, saying his pal always gives great advice.

Praise: Owen Warner’s friend and fellow Hollyoaks cast member Malique Thompson-Dwyer says the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! campmate is like a ‘wise old man’

He told the Mirror: ‘Owen is a wise old man trapped in a young boy’s body.

‘He might come out with things that you think, “Oh, c’mon Owen” but he has an older mindset, that of someone who has been through a lot and knows a lot.

‘It can be really hard to open up to your mates but you can go and talk to Owen about anything, he is such an open person.’

Good pals: Malique, 24 (right), insists that, despite Owen’s seeming lack of general knowledge and gullible nature, he is in fact very emotionally intelligent

Malique said Owen gives the ‘best advice’ as he praised his co-star, who recently opened up about his mental health on the ITV show.

He also tipped Owen to become King of the Jungle when the series ends this Sunday, saying he can’t wait to give his friend a ‘hug’.

It comes after Owen admitted he struggled after first setting foot in the jungle camp.

Rumble in the jungle: Malique appeared on I’m A Celebrity himself in 2018, with the actor being the second star to get voted off the show

During a chat at the creek last week, comedian Seann Walsh asked: ‘Owen, are you finding this difficult? The jungle adventure?’, to which Owen replied: ‘I was, but now not so much. Why, are you Seann?’

Seann told Owen: ‘For me there is quite a lot of anxiety during the day. If I don’t know what’s coming, I do not like it. I get really panicked.’

Owen asked: ‘Is that always?’, prompting Seann to reply: ‘Oh God. That’s why I pay a woman a weekly fee to help me with!’

Honest: It comes after Owen admitted he struggled after first setting foot in the jungle camp earlier this month

Soap hunk Owen agreed that it was good to talk about his feelings to a professional, adding: ‘It’s good though, doing therapy.

‘Like I always say to my mates, I fully recommend it even if you think you’re sound. Like it’s so so good to sit with someone, vent. Really helps you sort your head out. And figure out what’s going on and why it’s going on.’

Speaking in the Bush Telegraph later, Owen said: ‘Something about being in here has really taught me is it’s like, wear your heart on your sleeve because someone is most likely feeling the same.

‘And that’s like something I will take with me forever, now I usually keep my feelings close to my chest, but if you just talk about them most of the time, someone can relate to you.’

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! continues on Friday at 9.15pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
