Emma went on to reference ‘the love of her life’, but did not identify the mystery suitor or whether they are still together.

She said: ‘You know you have that person who’s the first love of your love of life kind of person, I remember when we kissed for the first time.

‘It was at at the end of my driveway and at night where he dropped me off from our date. And I ran up the driveway screaming. I felt like I was in a film and there should have been a backing track of me running in slow motion.’

Emma’s comments came after she addressed coming out as ‘queer’ for the first time.

The actress said it felt ‘scary and revealing’ sharing the news on social media four months ago when she referred to herself as a ‘queer bride’ and changed her pronouns to she/they.

She added that she was still defining her gender status and that she has a ‘long way to go on her journey’.

Keeping quiet: Emma has not publicly revealed whether she is in a relationship or not

Emma was being interviewed by Victoria Grimes for ITV News Granada Reports alongside actor Nabhaan Rizwa.

In the clip she said: ‘I think visibility is key with these things. My journey has been a long one and has still got a long way to go.

‘I think we are so used to defining ourselves. That’s the way society works within these binaries and it’s taken me a long time to realise that I exist somewhere in between and I’m still not sure where that is yet.’

‘When I started posting about it it felt very scary and revealing and I wasn’t sure if it was the right thing to do but the feeling I’ve got from other people in the queer community has been wonderful.

‘I just walked through from where we’re staying along canal street and it’s just an amazing feeling of solidarity, it’s a beautiful feeling to be among that sort of thing.’

In June, Emma marked the end of pride month by sporting a rainbow jumper while out and about in London. Months earlier, back in April Emma appeared to announce that she is ‘queer’.

The Crown actress took to Instagram as she shared a picture from her new spread in Pop magazine where she was clad in a wedding dress and veil.

She simply captioned the image: ‘ur fave queer bride’.

She also shared her ‘intimate’ journey with buying her first breast binder with her Instagram followers.

Revealing the snaps were taken before she bought her first binder, Emma said: ‘Some time before I bought my first binder, messing around with @sirdavidsimon.

Emma went on to reveal she is on a ‘journey’ with lots of twists and turns, but admitted that she was ’embracing it’.

She wrote: ‘We used boxing wrap, thanks for capturing this with me, very intimate, very new, very cool. It’s all a journey right. Lots of twists and turns and change and that’s ok! Embrace it.’
