Chase Rice Responds To Backlash Over Lack Of Social Distancing At Concert

Chase Rice posted a video on Instagram on Monday (June 29) giving his response to complaints about the lack of social distancing at his concert in Tennessee (on June 27) that saw a gathering of around 1,000 people with most of them not wearing face masks.

Rice faced criticism from several singers for hosting the gig, with many saying he has a disregard for public health. Kelsea Ballerini called Rice “selfish” online.

“Everybody had a blast,” Rice said in the video. “But then, once I posted the video, a lot of people seeing that online had a big problem with how the show looked, how the show went down.”

“I understand that there’s a lot of varying opinions, a lot of different opinions on COVID-19, how it works with live music crowds and what all that looks like. My biggest thing is y’all. Y’all are why I get to write songs, y’all are why I get to tour the country, why I get to do live shows and sing these songs to you guys and you guys sing them back. You guys are everything to me, so your safety is a huge priority,” he added.

Brian May, vice president of the Brushy Mountain Group, said that all local requirements were abided by for last Saturday’s concert, and numerous precautions were taken.

“All guests were given temperature checks prior to entering the venue and free hand sanitizer was provided to everyone at entry,” he added.
