Countdown star and author Carol Vorderman, 60, has hit back at a social media user who called her “insane” for wearing a mask in her car. The star had just received her first Covid vaccine when she took to Twitter to thank the Bristol-based volunteers and nursing staff for their efforts with the vaccination process.

You do wonder about some trolls don’t you?

Earlier today, the Channel 4 star took to Twitter to blast an online troll in front of her 457,600 followers to see.

Alongside two crying with laughter emojis, Carol wrote: “You do wonder about some trolls don’t you?”

The tweet in question which had provoked the Welsh native’s response read: “Why would anyone wear a mask on their own in a car? Insane.”

In England you must wear a face covering in certain indoor settings including shops and on public transport due to the pandemic, but it is not necessary to wear one while travelling in your own car.

Fans of the Countdown star rushed to echo her thoughts on the matter and provide their support.

Addressing the insensitive comment, one wrote: “What business is it of yours anyway? How do you know that they are not on a short journey and when they get out of the car need the mask again?”

Another social media user penned: “Leave Vorders alone. Show some form of respect…”

A third added in support: “There will be no Vorderman slander on this application thank you Louise”.

The TV presenter herself responded to the comment and said: “Awwww bless you.”

It comes after Carol posted an emotional video earlier today where she struggled to hold back tears after the “emotional experience” of receiving a coronavirus vaccine.

Speaking to the camera, she said: “I’ve had my jab and can I just say thank you – it’s quite an emotional thing really”.

“So many people here are volunteers from St John’s Ambulance to nursing staff, the lad who was helping me is joining the police force tomorrow.

“These are people with a sense of duty and service, and they are doing the best for all of us.”

She continued: “It’s just an extraordinary system here at Ashton Gate in Bristol.

“Thank you everybody – it’s really meaningful.”

“That’s why they are doing it, so we are all protected and safe from this terrible thing, that has been going on for the last year,” she continued.

The presenter went on to thank the NHS and all those involved with the vaccination process.

She captioned the post: “I’ve had my jab… an emotional experience because of the smiles and joy in the faces of all the volunteers here at @ashtongatestad in Bristol.

“Thank you for your duty and service for good. You are extraordinary #Vaccination #ThankYouNHS #ThankYouVolunteers.”

Many of Carol’s fans shared their thoughts on her post.

One wrote: “Wow. You’re making me emotional. Well done thank you for your kind words and using your platform to encourage the vaccine. I’m in tears right now x.”
