Ariana Grande has spoken out to apologise for a joke about murdered child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey, admitting it was ‘out of pocket’.
The Thank U, Next singer appears to have commented on a friend’s Instagram post, which featured a stack of magazines on a shop shelf with JonBenet on the front page.
Alongside the image, the Instagram user said: ‘No one has done more covers.’
Ariana then replied: ‘I cant WAIT for this to be your halloween look [sic],’ referring to the six-year-old beauty pageant queen.
JonBenet was murdered in her own home in Boulder, Colorado on Christmas Day in 1990 and the case has exhaustively been the subject of true crime documentaries and podcasts.
The child’s murderer has never been found.
Ariana, 26, caught a wave of backlash for her joke and responded to one Twitter follower who said: ‘Wait WHAT?? an 8-year-old girl who was violently killed, strangled and suffocated cannot be anyone’s costume [sic].’
Offering an apology, the popstar said: ‘Yeah no i deleted it very quickly and understand that it’s not at all funny. this was out of pocket and i sincerely apologize [sic].’
It comes days after Ariana spoke out to support a model who have come forward to accuse photographer Marcus Hyde of bribing her for nude portraits.
In an Instagram post, the 7 Rings singer said: ‘Dear models/artists in LA / anywhere. I have just read some shocking and really heart-breaking stories. I hate that this is a conversation.
‘Please do not shoot with photographers who make you uncomfortable or make you feel like you need to take your clothing off if you don’t want to.’
She added: ‘If you want to, sick. But if you don’t, please don’t.
‘If they tell you you have to pay more money if you’re clothed that’s f**ked and I’m sorry that has happened to you. I promise there are so many respectful, nice, talented photographers out there.’
