On March 3, 2023 — the morning after a jury found him guilty of killing wife Maggie and son Paul — Alex Murdaugh was sented to life in prison for their brutal 2021 murders. During and after a six-week trial during which the disgraced disbarred attorney — a scion of a powerful and influential family of lawyers in South Carolina’s Lowcountry region — took the stand at the Colleton County Courthouse in Walterboro, South Carolina, and admitted lying about his whereabouts moments before the killing, true crime aficionados were sucked into the proceedings, including a few celebrities.

O.J. Simpson — who was famously acquitted of killing former wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman — weighed in on the Alex Murdaugh trial in early March 2023. “Hey, Twitter world, it’s me, yours truly. A whole lot of people have been asking me what I think about this Alex Murdaugh trial. I don’t know why they think I’m an expert on it,” he said in a video posted on Twitter.

“I gotta admit, when he took the stand, the guy who’s a habitual liar, I did watch,” O.J. said. “When the trial first started, I watched him take the stand, and I thought it was probably a mistake because the guy is an admitted liar and it’s hard for me to think he could be on the stand for five, six, seven, eight days without lying. The question is, what did he lie about?”

O.J. Simpson continued to opine on Twitter, “Lying and stealing money is a little different than murder. I realized in watching him testify what he was doing. He was just trying to relate to one or two of those jurors that he’s a good ol’ boy, like one of them. And I’m not sure he didn’t succeed in doing that.”

So does O.J. think Alex is guilty or innocent? “I am not qualified to really say if the guy did it or he didn’t do it. … but from what I’ve seen, do I think it’s more likely that he did it? Yes, but more likely equates [to] reasonable doubt. So, from what I know, I would have to say there’s a lot of reasonable doubt there.” O.J. also said that he thinks Murdaugh should be further investigated concerning the death of his housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield.

O.J. later tweeted “Down goes Murdaugh” after the guilty verdict came in.

“Guilty as charged!” Piers Morgan said on Fox News of Alex Murdaugh. “He’s a psychopathic liar. This guy is the George Santos of psychopaths. He did this. I think he didn’t just kill the wife and the son — he also killed the housekeeper. … This guy is a serial killer.” Piers said he believed that Alex “has lied through his back teeth about being there [at the kennels] when this all went down which says to me along with all the other evidence,” including of his financial crimes, that he’s guilty.
